Why do I love androgynous high-fashion model Andrej Pejic? It’s not just because he’s beautiful - so beautiful that even the backward lad’s rag FHM ranked him 98th in their 100 Sexiest Women in the World 2011 survey. It’s not just that I have a weakness for haute couture, and Andrej managed be the highlight of Jean Paul Gaultier’s men’s and women’s January 2011 runway collections. What I love most is his bold refusal to be anything but himself. Andrej’s success is an inspiration to those who wish to step outside of the present conventions surrounding sex and gender; in a larger sense, he is a statement for personal freedom, and freedom is beautiful.
